Eva + Clay | A Blue Ridge Mountains Engagement Session

Eva and Clay are my kind of people. They love all the things I love – good beer, good music, good friends, and the outdoors.

When I tossed around the idea of heading up to the Blue Ridge Mountains for an engagement photo session, I was hoping they would give me a good excuse to head up and spend some time outdoors in one of my favorite places. When they said “YES!” I was so stoked – I even headed up early to do a little hiking before they arrived.

When planning the session, our conversations somehow turned to our recent craft beer discoveries – that’s when Eva brought up one of my new favorites… The Catawba Brewing Co. Morning Joe. It’s a delicious coffee blond ale.

Eva and Clay quickly become some of my favorite people when they brought a few to the top of the mountain to share! The hike was fun and the scene was beautiful. After hanging out at the top of the mountain for a bit getting know Eva and Clay and their energetic dog bootsie, we decided it was time to start shooting.

Engagement sessions in the mountains are some of my most enjoyable sessions because you never really know what you will get! The sun peaking over the mountain tops changes so quickly – and the clouds moving through the Blue Ridge Mountains shifts and morphs every few minutes.

Before you know it, you’re literally standing in the middle of the clouds! That kind of environment is a challenge for a photographer and a lot of fun to shoot in.

During the hike down we chatted about everything from the Dave Matthews Band to reminiscing about the best concerts we ever saw. Finding our way down in the dark I also found out that Eva and Clay will be moving this week to start a new chapter of their life in the mid-west. They will be there for 6 months! I’m really excited for them. We all love traveling – and that’s going to be an awesome adventure.
